Creating ODBC Connections

Perform the following steps to create ODBC connections:

1          Start WinSQL and click ODBC Mgr. Optionally, you may also select Open ODBC under the File Menu.

Note that a 64-bit operating system has two ODBC Managers—one for 32-bit and another for 64-bit. Opening it from WinSQL32 will ensure you open the 32-bit version of the ODBC Manager.

2          Click Add. Select a desired driver; for example select SQL Server when connecting to Microsoft SQL Server.

3          Click Finish. The following window displays:

Note: The following screen may look different if you are connecting to a database other than Microsoft SQL Server.

4          Enter the desired name in the Name field.

5          Enter an arbitrary description in the Description field.

6          Enter the server’s host name or IP address in the Which SQL Server do you want to connect to? field.

7          Click Next.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete this step. Depending upon the back-end database to which you are connecting, the screens may look different on your machine.
