Backup client won't run

I had everything setup and running fine, but now the syncrify backup client hasn't connected to the server and run a backup for 9 days. When I double click it's icon in the start menu to open it, nothing happens, it doesn't open and doesn't run.

How do I troubleshoot this? Is there a log file anywhere?

Thank you

Backup client won't run

Try the following:

  • On the client machine, go to C:\ProgramData\SyncrifyData\reqLibs folder.
  • What is the size of clientRT.jar? If it is less than 3.9MB, this file has gotten corrupted and is causing this problem.
  • clientRT.jar is actually SyncrifyClient.jar that resides in $INSTALL_DIR\customClients folder on the machine where Syncrify Server runs. Therefore, if it is corrupted on the client, check if it also corrupted on the server.
  • Assuming this file is fine on the server's end, delete it from the client machine. In other words, delete C:\ProgramData\SyncrifyData\reqLibs\clientRT.jar
  • Try restarting the client. If it starts, restart the background service (Backup Monitor Service) through control panel. The client will pull the new clientRT.jar into the reqLibs folder in a few minutes. Ensure Syncrify Client GUI is not running in order for patching to occur.

Backup client won't run

Thank you that has worked. clientRT.jar was 0Kb on the client but was OK on the server, so deleting it solved the problem.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Backup client won't run

Since it was 0 KB on the server, you have to fix that end as well. Download SyncrifyClientManual.zip from https;//www.synametrics.com/files/Syncrify/SyncrifyManualUpdate.zip and follow instructions on https://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyManualUpdate.htm to patch your Syncrify Server again.

Ensure the size is not 0 bytes on the server's end once update is complete. The client will pull the new file from the server in a few minutes.
