SMTP settings dissapear WinSQL

I use WinSQL on multiple client computers.  This is something that has popped up more than once.  After sending for 3ish days the emails stop arriving.  I go onto the server in question and check the logs to find something along the lines of

"04/07/2019 3:21:52 a.m. [ERROR] {} - Unable to read C:\Users\Calnar\AppData\Roaming\WinSQL\WinSQL.conf. Error: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Calnar\AppData\Roaming\WinSQL\WinSQL.conf' because it is being used by another process.. The file will be deleted to prevent further errors."

Followed then by repeated

"05/07/2019 5:41:52 a.m. [ERROR] {MainThread} - Unable to send email. The SMTP host was not specified."

Sure enough I log in to the system and find the SMTP settings are gone.  What is causing the system to delete its own conf file!?

Scott,

WinSQL.conf is the file that holds most of the configuration in WinSQL. Do you know what could lock that file? WinSQL does not leave this file open. It inflates the configuration parameters values in memory from the file and closes it right away. Do you know if any other process on your machine is locking the file? Perhaps a backup program or an antivirus.

As a work-around, I'd recommend you backup the entire Data Folder, which in your case is C:\Users\Calnar\AppData\Roaming\WinSQL .This way if the file gets corrupted or locked, you can restore it.

Yep will do.  We use WinSQL in multiple environments that are outside our control.  This is not the first time I have had this issue happen, and this is on unrelated companies.  Now I have put the settings back in it will likely be fine for a random period of time.  As there are many variables but only one common denominator (WinSQL) I was trying to understand what is happening to this file as the system was running fine for 5+ days before.

This is still ongoing.  Is there no way to stop WinSQL from preforming the delete behaviour, which is ultimately what leads to the settings being trashed.  It is not sustaible to be logging on to remote clients computers, when I have to get access through a 3rd party..
