Revolving around the core of technology
Hello,
A single user gets an error when trying to send a download link. A pop-up says "Success" but the message is "Could not send email due to an internal server error". I've tried creating the link from my PC and it works fine. Just this one user having issues although she can log into Synaman without any problems.
Thanks
Tom,
This happens when there is an error sending an email. Note that SynaMan changes the Sender's address when generating an outbound email. For example, when you create a public link, the sender could be:
Sender: your.email@yourcompany.com
Recipient: someone@gmail.com
Similarly, when this other user generates a public link, the sender's address will be that.user@hiscompany.com . You run into such error when your SMTP server accepts your.email@yourcompany.com but not that.user@hiscompany.com as the sender. Therefore, check the configuration of your SMTP server and confirm it accepts emails when the sender is that other user.
Thanks for the quick response!
So it appears other users are having a similar difficulty. We do have a new email server just installed last week. This is my config in Synaman:
So, if I understand you correctly, the email server does not like the sender being different than the SMTP user, which is me. Correct? My email server won't allow an insecure SMTP connection on port 25 out of the box. I'll need to check with the email server vendor to see if I can to that for Synaman. Would that solve the issue?
Thanks again!
You are correct. There are two variations when it comes to SMTP server's configuration:
Check with your SMTP server's vendor to see if it can allow you to use the second configuration. This is typically true if you had a printer/fax that was sending emails. Another example is a web server that needs to generate emails for different users. In both examples, the sender email will be different than the log in ID. As long as the user id/password is correct, the SMTP server should accept and deliver emails.
Do you have an option of using a local SMTP server? Meaning SynaMan will send it's email to the local server, which will eventually deliver the message to the final recipient. You can try using Xeams (http://xeams.com)
