Exchange Server Backup Plugin

Hi,

I've followed the tutorial as from the KB: http://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyExchangePlugin.htm
What I need to make sure of (because the exchange backups still fail - is, if there are any pre-requisites required on the server to allow exchange backups. Possible a liscense that needs to be purchased?

I cannot seem to get a successful backup of the exchange server, and all the steps have been followed and completed.

Exchange Server Backup Plugin

Reghardt,

No extra license is required.

The Exchange backup is done in 2 phases:

  1. Syncrify runs a powershell script that causes Exchange to dump PST files. These scripts are stored in $DATA_FOLDER\ExchangeScripts folder. Try running the script CreateExchangeExport.cmd from an elevated command prompt and ensure it creates the PST files in the shared folder. Check the errors you see on the screen and Google the error message. Please note that Syncrify does not get involved in Phase I, besides the fact that it spawns the script in the background.
  2. In this phase Syncrify backs up the generated PST files in Phase I to the remote server.

Exchange Server Backup Plugin

Good morning,

I managed to make a backup, the exchange mailboxes got exported to the shared folder. And inside I have seen a couple of .pst's.
Just to make sure, this is the feature that of the Exchange Backup clinet correct?
It doesn't also make a complete server backup as such, for a complete Server re-install in case of a disaster recovery?

It only exports the Exchange Mailboxes to .pst correct?

Yes, the creation of PST files is a feature of Exchange, not Syncrify. Syncrify comes into the picture once PST files have been created and now they need to be copied to a remote destination.

If your end goal is to backup entire Exchange, copy the folder containing Exchange Database files (*.edb and *.ldb). Make sure you enable VSS so that it can copy the files correctly.
