EOF Reached errors linux console client

I've been trying to set up the Linux client on a Buffalo TeraStation NAS. The client will run, and several days ago I got a partial backup to my server across the internet. But now I get nothing but messages like this:

[main] ERROR com.synametrics.syncrify.client.K  - Unable to backup %filename%r. EOF reached.
com.synametrics.a.b.b: EOF reached.

On the server end, it is creating all of the folders that exist on the client, but absolutely zero files are being transferred. My server setup is as follows:

  • Ubuntu 14.04 server as a firewall
  • Ubuntu 14.04 server as the backup host, backups stored on a ~5.5TB RAID 5 array, using Linux MD RAID support
  • Port 5801 forwarded from the firewall to the backup server, which is using 5801 as the secure HTTPS transfer port (default HTTP transfers through 5800 are only available on my internal LAN)

On the NAS end, there is nothing special other than it's a Buffalo TeraStation NAS. As I said, the console client is executing, and for at least a couple nights I got a partial backup. I should also add that I have another office location using the Windows client to connect to my backup host, and it is working perfectly fine through all of this, as well as a Linux console client on my internal LAN that is also backing up successfully. I have used the Windows client from an old Win2003 server successfully from the same location where I am now attempting to use the Linux console client on the NAS.

I have scoured Google and the Syncrify KB to no avail. Please help!

EOF Reached errors linux console client

One more thing, don't know if it makes a difference: in all 3 clients, I am performing a client-to-server backup. As far as I can tell, the clients that are working have equivalent user account and profile configurations to the account which is not working. The errors are not obviously user or profile related; the user appears to log in correctly, and the backup process is not getting terminated due to authorization failures.

Nelson,

Check http://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyEOF.htm for some explaination. If you are getting these errors constantly and nothing is getting backed up, there is definitely a problem with the network.

Did you configure the firewall in a way that it will inspect TCP/IP packets? Don't use HTTP as the protocol when configuring firewall. Often firewalls try to inspect the traffic if they know the protcol used is HTTP. This can not only modify the data but can drastically slow down backups.
