QNAP server suddenly claiming it's out of space?

I have Syncrify running on a QNAP server. It's been running fine for years. It has an external USB 3TB drive it uses for storage. According to the QNAP server the drive has over 1.6TB available on it, yet Syncrify just started complaining that there's less than 15MB free. It's also showing no files available for restoration. If I look at the actual drive I can see plenty of files but Syncrify can't? The Syncrify code just updated - is it hopelessly broken?

QNAP server suddenly claiming it's out of space?

Howard,

QNAP uses Linux underneath - meaning disk has multiple volumes. It is very likely you are running out of room on one particular volume but others are fine. Syncrify needs space in 3 different locations, which could potentially be on 3 different volumes:

  • Installation path - This is typically set to /share/CACHE_DEV1/.qpkg/Syncrify
  • Temp path - This is specific to the OS. The best way to check this is to go to Syncrify web interface, go to the About screen and change the URL in the browser from operation=about to operation=debug. Then, check the value for java.io.tmpdir. Refer to http://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyTempFolder.htm for details.
  • Repository path - This is where your data is stored and I assume this is the one with 1.6TB free

Use the following method to see if any of your volume is running out of disk:

  • Connect to your QNAP box using SSH
  • Type the following
    df -h
  • This will display the disk usage. Refer the Use% column and ensure none of your volume is near 100% full.

QNAP server suddenly claiming it's out of space?

Thank you for the suggestion!  I had checked with df but I didn't know about the the debug info. There was one part of the file system that was full of temporaries that didn't seem to be related to anything. The emails stopped by themselves. We lost power briefly afterwards, the server rebooted and the messages haven't happened since.

I'll defintely note your suggestion for future weirdness.
