Running Syncrify CLIENT on Synology NAS

Hello there !

I already look everywhere for an answer but nothing..

We have a 2008 R2 with Syncrify server and some client backup on this server.

Some clients need to backup their NAS (All Synology) and until now we install the client on a Windows Machine who backup by UNC path.

To do this, i have to add guest permissions on my shared folder and of course i don't want that..

So if anyone know how to do for installing the client on a Syno NAS or add the permission for Windows to read and write on the nas with the System account.

Sorry for my bad english..

Thanks,

Théo.

Running Syncrify CLIENT on Synology NAS

Dear Theo,

You will have to use the Command line version of Syncrify Client on Synology NAS. Mapping a drive from a Windows machine is not recommended. Here are the steps:

  • Install Java JRE on your Synology
  • Upload SyncrifyClient.jar file to this Synology box. This file is available inside the zipped file for Linux. Connect to your Syncrify Server's web interface, click Download Clients on the upper right hand side
  • Following instructions on http://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyCommandLine.htm to run the client
  • Write a shell script to run the actual backup. Use the scheduler in Synology to trigger the backups at your desired time
