NTFS symbolic links

Hi, I'm thinking about purchasing Syncrify. I have been using DeltaCopy. One of the things that disappoints me about rsync on Windows is that it can't handle NTFS symbolic links (created with the mklink command, NOT the old NTFS junction points). Will Syncrify recognize those and copy them properly to another Windows system? What about translating them to symbolic links on UNIX?

NTFS symbolic links

I also have this question - will Syncrify correctly copy symlinks between Windows-only systems (i.e. server is Windows, client is Windows)?

NTFS symbolic links

Symbolic links/Junction points are NOT backed up in Syncrify. This is done by design to avoid infinite loop. There is way to change this behavior by adding a new configuration parameter called processSymbolicLinks in ClientConfig.xml file. Here are the steps:

  • Open Syncrify Client
  • Click Open Data Folder under the File menu
  • Add a new parameter line for processSymbolicLinks. See image below.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: You have to ensure not to create infinite loops with symlinks. Otherwise backup will never finish and you will end up running out of disk space on the server's end.
